MBIE's confirmed organisational structure

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Chief Executive, David Smol has announced the final decision on MBIE’s organisational structure following consultation with its people.

“MBIE has multiple roles in supporting a strong economy to enable a higher standard of living for all New Zealanders. We need to make sure MBIE is set up to be a consistently high performing organisation, as efficient and effective as we can be in order to maximise our contribution,” says David.

“That is why it was important to review how we are going since we were formed over two years ago and where we can make improvements. We are developing a work programme to address the way we work together as an organisation and this will complement a new structure,” says David.

“The final decision comes after three weeks of consultation and a month of working through very thoughtful submissions from our people,” he says.

As a result of these decisions 86 positions will be disestablished and 30 new positions will be created. This net reduction of 56 positions is nine fewer than originally proposed. Many of the disestablished positions are vacant or being filled by contractors or staff on fixed term agreements.

“I hope that many of the people in disestablished positions will secure one of the new positions or one of our other vacant positions that are being advertised as part of our business as usual processes,” says David.

MBIE is working towards Wednesday 1 July 2015 to go live with the new structure.
