This man knows how to develop commercial property...
Harvey Dunlop is a New Plymouth based commercial property investor and manager. After graduating from Lincoln University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Agricultural Commerce, Harvey returned to Taranaki where he joined the Rural Banking and Finance Corporation as a Farm Appraiser. He became registered as a Valuer in 1982 before leaving the Rural Bank in 1986 to join his father in redeveloping a former North Taranaki “Think Big” accommodation facility into a major hotel and conference centre. His main role during both the start up and operation was around financial management and marketing of the facility to both a local and national audience. A challenging proposition given the economic landscape following the 1987 share market and subsequent property market collapses.
In 1996, following the sale of the hotel to an international Hotel Management Training Company, Harvey was approached by ASB Bank to start up their Taranaki Rural Banking division. During his time as ASB Rural Manager he joined forces with Jeremy Thomson purchasing a number of underperforming commercial properties in New Plymouth’s CBD. He left the Bank in 2007 to devote more time to developing their growing property portfolio and has since been engaged in all aspects of commercial property management including; feasibility studies, value add, funding, project management, leases, rent reviews, tenant management, property maintenance and financial management.
In 2011 Harvey project managed the successful restoration and adaptive use of the iconic historic White Hart Hotel, a nationally recognised property holding the highest category heritage registration with Heritage New Zealand. At the same time he supervised the construction of a new family home located on New Plymouth’s coastal walkway where he and his wife Kaye now enjoy all of the benefits of a city beach lifestyle.
