It was a big surprise when two of our own members Richard & Kristy Kelly were named Landlords of the Year for 2019 at the NZPIF conference that year in Rotorua.
We were planning to have them as guest speakers in 2020, but Covid-19 disrupted our calendar and we couldn’t make it happen.
But finally it will: on Tuesday 16th February, 7:30 pm at the Plymouth Hotel, Richard Kelly will be our guest speaker.
He has a fascinating story to tell about their journey. At the time of their win aged in their mid-30s, had paid off their mortgage, owned seven rental investments (in NP, Palmerston North and Papamoa) and were on track to retire at 50.
They’re big on goal-setting, budgeting and careful with personal spending.
The NZPIF judging panel said they liked the fact that the Kellys were a young couple keen to encourage other young couples to become investors and landlords. “Kristy and her husband have come up to speed quickly, putting in place an achievable goal, good business systems and using IT to achieve excellent communication with their tenants. They are enthusiastic landlords and are responsive to the needs of their tenants, fixing and maintaining their properties as required.”
